Tbilisi
City Assembly did not approve the 2014 city budget for the second time. At the Assembly
session which was held yesterday, 17 deputies supported setting the city budget
while 22 of them objected again. In order to establish the budget, the number
of members is required to be 24; 39 deputies in total cast their votes at the
session, reported InterpressNews.
As Deputy
of City Assembly, Irakli Shikhiashvili stated at the end of the session, the
2014 Tbilisi City Budget project is too weak to be established. Mr.
Shikhiashvili defined the budget project as utopian and ludicrous. “This budget
will prove to be an excruciating headache for the new government; the
authorities will definitely fail to meet its ridiculous requirements, and this
will obviously trigger a massive uproar from the public”, the Council Head said.
At the
session, the city budget was presented by Papuna Petriashvili, Tbilisi Mayor
Secretary. As Mr. Papunashvili alleges, all 55 points recommended by the city
assembly have been included in the 850 million budget project which, according
to him, cannot really be defined as utopian or absurd.
The
Council session at which the budget project was slump for the second time
lasted for about 2 hours. According to the law, the 2014 Tbilisi City Budget
must be discussed before March 11.
