Yesterday, on February 18, Georgian
First Deputy Foreign Minister, Mr Davit Zalkaliani met OSCE High Commissioner
on National Minorities, Ms Astrid Thors.
The First Deputy Foreign Minister
thanked the High Commissioner for the activity her office has carried out in
Georgia and expressed the readiness to enhance the existing co-operation,
reports GHN according to MFA’s Press and Information Depratment.
Mr Zalkaliani gave the High
Commissioner detailed information on illegal actions carried out by Russian
occupation forces in Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region, notably the
installation of wire fences and artificial trenches across the occupation line.
Matters about gravity of the security
situation and human rights violations in Georgia's occupied territories where
also reported to the High Commissioner. Georgian Government's position on
repatriation of people forcibly deported from the Soviet Socialist Republic of
Georgia in the 1940s was shared during the meeting as well.
Ms Thors expressed her wish to visit
the occupation line the Tskhinvali region in order to study the existing
situation.
