Late in the evening of August 20, at the mouth of the gorge Amal-Devorak and Dariali gorge, at 134 kilometer of road Tbilisi-Stepantsminda-Larsi mudflow-landlide mass fell over. Mudflow was caused by 17 May large scale glacier masses failure of Devdorak glacier at transit zone Amali-Devdoraki gorge of accumulated debris materials' cut, which, in turn, was caused of heavy precipitation inflicts.
Mudflow mass filled the Terek river bed, which resulted in a weathered material fall into the water and went further to temporary road,which was constructed after the May 17 mudflow, in the direction of flow of the Terek, reports GHN based on Government of Georgia.
Yesterday, in the order of the Prime Minister, mobilization occurred. To the place arrived Ministers of Internal Affairs, Infrastructure, Environment protection and Finance and Secretary of State Security and Crisis Management.
According to preliminary estimates, the road has been damaged, as well as the Lars border checkpointlocated between Georgia and the Russian Federation. Power plant construction is damaged too, the extent of the damage is determined.
The whereabouts of two persons unknown at this time. The disaster occurred at the moment when one Georgian citizen and the other Turkish citizen were in constructing power plant tunnel. Rescue team of Ministry of Internal Affairs Emergency Management Department is mobilized there and after the water level decrease in tunnel rescue operations will immediately begin.
Heavy equipment of Road Department is mobilized at the place, which has already begun clearing the road. For this moment the dam is built, which provides water flow stop and protect the road.
The group of geologists of National Environment Agency is mobilized at the place, which with other experts is working on preliminary evaluation and recommendations, also, in order to study the situation, additional seismic station has been installed at place.
By means of early warning checkpoints in Amal-Devorak Valley a timely reaction has been occurred. Patrol Police officers blocked the Tbilisi-Stepantsminda-Larsi road section and released it from vehicles.
