The subject of placing NATO defense systems in Georgia is still current issue, stated the special representative of Secretary General of NATO in South Caucasus and central Asia, James Appathurai in an interview with journalist of Public Broadcaster Ketevan Kardava, reports GHN.
As NATO representative stated the initiative of the Minister of Defense of Georgia about necessity of defense systems for Georgia is still in action. "Though as in the case of Ukraine NATO as organization has no possibility for. But the fact that Georgia needs placement of defense systems will be written in final communiqué that will be adopted after the end of the Summit of North Atlantic Alliance. What about next steps NATO member countries have to decide," stated James Appathurai.
Representative of North Atlantic Alliance also said that Georgia will receive "Enhanced Cooperation Package" on Wales Summit of NATO: "It will be increased help, involvement if strategic negotiations, strengthening NATO office in Georgia, joint trainings and participation of Georgia in planning."
The Minister of Defense of Georgia Irakli Alasania stated about placement of NATO defense systems in Georgia on the conference "United and Free Europe" in Washington organized by Atlantic Council.
