I am proud of the progress we are making to reform our justice system and our entire government, - the prime minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili addressed with these words to the participants of the International Leadership Forum which is headed by democracy, development and rule of law centre of Economic Policy Research Institute and Stanford University, reports GHN based on press center of Prime Minister.
The head of the government of Georgia informed the participants of the forum about his view regarding the democratic development of the country and explained that he has the government elected as a result of free elections for the first time in the Georgian history which mainly includes human rights defenders and former diplomats.
"We identified several key areas where reform was critically needed including restoring the rule of law; establishing an independent judiciary and democratic institutions; protecting fundamental human rights and freedoms; ensuring free and fair elections; and ending the impunity of government officials", - the Prime Minister stated.
Irakli Garibashvili discussed the reforms made in each direction and explained that strengthening judiciary system, democratic institutions and protecting human, including minority rights is one of the main priorities of the government.
The Prime Minister said that it is important for the country's progress to continue the tradition of holding democratic elections and overcoming impunity of officials.
At the end of his speech the head of the government emphasized that a on the path to democracy European and Euro-Atlantic integration is of crucial importance for Georgia, also strategically important relations with US and Europe.
"Of course, we face many complex issues, but I am proud of the progress we have made to reform our justice system and our entire government which implies improving and strengthening our democratic institutions. It is important for my government to remind the nation and ourselves that we are still a young democracy in progress. We need your help in ensuring that Georgia truly lives up to its reputation as a leading democracy in the region", - the prime minister addressed the participants of the International Leadership Forum.
