"Involvement of Russia I Ukrainian events utterly changed security perspective, the governments of the west have to be very careful towards Russia during long time period," stated the Prime Minister of Estonia Taavi Roivas yesterday. In an interview with the Financial Times, Taavi Rõivas said: "This isn't just a period of bad weather, it's climate change. So our reaction has to be long-term," reports GHN.
Mr. Taavi made this statement before Wales Summit and stated that the Summit has to take measures to react of the danger that comes from northern and eastern flanks.
Today the President of USA has to meet the Presidents of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in Tallinn. He have to convince his colleagues that NATO collective defense doctrine, except the members of the Alliance, is spread on those Baltic states that were part of Soviet Union before 1991.
Mr. Taavi Riivas said that annexation of Crimea by Russia and involvement of Russia in Ukrainian events demanded from NATO member countries strong and unified answer.
Besides he said that taking into account past experience Alliance have to pay more attention and have to make reaction towards Georgian-Russian 2008 war; as a result of this was Russia declared independency of two separatist regions - Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
"I do believe the alarm clock that went off in August 2008 was put on snooze too soon," he said. "Now I see a very strong consensus that we should stay awake. The alarm clock shouldn't be put on snooze or ignored."
