Today, Irakli Alasania has held the meetings with Minister of National Defence of Canada Robert Nicholson and Minister of Defence of Finland Carl Haglund, reports GHN based on the Ministry of Defense. One of the main topics of discussion was Georgia`s NATO membership prospects and importance of the Substantial Package Georgia is expecting to adopt at the Wales Summit. The sides referred to the regional security environment and Ukrainian crises as well. Georgian Minister of Defence briefed his counterparts on Georgian troops` contribution to the international missions ongoing under the aegis of NATO and EU. During the meeting with Canadian Minister of National Defence, Irakli Alasania focused on bilateral cooperation issues and future relationship prospects. "Today, we have had a very important bilateral meeting both at the level of presidents and ministers. At the meeting with my Finnish and Canadian counterparts, I have suggested them to engage in the process of implementation of NATO-Georgia cooperation package. They have accepted the proposals. We also schedule to meet with Minister of Defence of Sweden. All the partners agree that Georgia is distinguished with its capabilities, relations and cooperation experience with NATO. That is why a new format of relationship will begin with the Alliance. I would say that Georgia is the only country among the aspirant nations which became the part of the new format, the new initiative. We are proud of it as it gives us the opportunity to engage in the processes of planning, operations, exchange of intelligence information. This proves that Georgia is a good partner of NATO and goes forward towards the Alliance membership", said Irakli Alasania after the meeting.
