They Kill Justice in Russia - this is th etitle aof the article published in Liberacion French newspaper. The open letter is signed by Vaclav Havel and other world-famous political and public figures, who addressed Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
`Death of Eduard Chuvashov A judge killed in cold blood on April 12 in Moscow, added a new name to the excessively long list of murders committed against those who try to bring justice to victims of crimes in Russia, essential task for the future of Russian society`, the letter says.
Vaclav Havel mentions Ana Politkovskaya, Stanislav Makarov, Natalya Estemirova, Makshrip Aushev, Ivan Khutorsky and says those people were determined to improve Russia`s reputation on human rights and expose the truth about their violations.
We urge the Russian government to stop once and for all the chain of human tragedies. By allowing the killing of people whose sole purpose is the preservation of human dignity, Russia is choking any hope for a better future. At least the Russian authorities fail in what should be the central function of any government: to protect the lives and physical security of all its citizens. To make matters worse, none of these murders has been investigated, and none of the perpetrators has been brought to justice.
Such impunity created an atmosphere of almost encouraging the continuation of these acts. The fact that the Russian security forces are suspected of having been involved in some cases shows the depth of the problem. These allegations must be investigated, whether the statements of President Medvedev in favor of the rule of law and a society based on rule of law are not empty words`, the letter says.
