From September 23 MoMa -New York Modern Art Museum will host most large scale retrospective of Georgian films.
Nearly 50 Georgian films will be represented also in Berkeley and later in Washington. There will be shown old silent movies, classic of Soviet Period and modern successful films. The process of choosing the program is still in action. The list of the films is determined by representatives of MoMA.
The first part of the project symbolically is called family story, that includes creations of three different generations of cinematographic families form 1920 (September 23-October 16, 2014), the second part is called Blue Mountains and after this (November 22-December 21, 2014) project can be called as century project. Such kind of large scale retrospective last time it was in Pompidou Centre in Paris (80s of 20th century).
Big part of chosen films is kept in different archives of America and the world, between them in Moscow film archive "Gosfilmfund, some part of the films are sent from Georgia.
Georgian film retrospective in New York coincides with the opening of the General Assembly of the United Nations.
The organizers of Georgian film days are: Modern Art Museum of New York MoMA, California University - Berkeley, Pacific Film Archive.
Supporters of retrospection from Georgia are: Embassy of Georgia in USA; National Film Center of Georgia; the Ministry of Culture and Monuments Protection; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.
