Nine citizens of Georgia, who resided in Kyrgyzstan, have been evacuated from the city of Osh, where the ethnic violence reached its climax after the revolution in Kyrgyzstan. The evacuated Georgians have been taken to Bishkek and they are now waiting for their flight to Istanbul and Georgia. Georgiam embassy organized the evacuation of Georgian citizens. In addition, an injured Turk tourist has been also evacuated from Osh.
Meanawhile, Kyrgyzstan`s interim government on Tuesday declared Wednesday a day of mourning for the victims of ethnic violence in the south of the country.
`It is a great loss for us. We will pay tribute to all who died. Today I will sign a decree over the mourning day,` interim Kyrgyz leader Rosa Otunbayeva was quoted as saying by 24.kg.
At least 170 people have been killed in the clashes between ethnic Kyrgyz and Uzbek centered in the cities of Osh and Jalal-Abad near the border with Uzbekistan. Around 800 were injured. 100,000 people have fled the country after the conflict.
Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia , Robert Blake is expected to arrive in Kyrgyzstan for political consultations. U.S. government has already launched negotiations with the Russian. government.
The violence started in Kyrgystan`s second-largest city of Osh on Thursday and spread to the wider region in five days of unrest that saw cars set on fire and stores, markets and residential buildings smashed, looted and burned.
