On the 18th of September, the Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister, Ms Tamar Beruchashvili met the France-Caucasus Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group's Vice-President, Mr Alain Gournac and the Senator, Mr Philippe Dallier, reports GHN based on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
At the meeting a wide range of issues concerning bilateral and multilateral co-operation has been discussed. Special emphasis was put on the co-operation existing in the sphere of defence between the two countries and on the prospects of future development of such co-operation.
The participants of the meeting focused on the importance of the Association Agreement signed between Georgian and the European Union and on its effective implementation. They discussed the issues concerning the regional security; concerning the current situation in Ukraine; concerning the relations between Georgia and Russia; and concerning the current situation in Georgia's occupied territories. Ms Beruchashvili underlined the role of France during the war of 2008 and expressed her hope that France will proceed with such activity in future as well.
The French delegation reaffirmed its Government's support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for Georgia's European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
In the frames of the visit, the French senators have held meetings with the Georgian President, Mr Giorgi Margvelashvili; with the Prime Minister, Mr Irakli Garibashvili; and with the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Mr Davit Usupashvili.
