On the 23rd of September 2014, the Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister, Ms Tamar Beruchashvili met the members of the Lithuanian Sejm's Group of Friends with Georgia, who are on their two day visit to Georgia.
Ms Beruchashvili praised the visit of the Inter-Parliamentary Group of Friends to Georgia as a demonstration of intensive co-operation existing between the two legislative bodies of their relevant countries. The two delegations noted that the relations between Georgia and Lithuania are particularly effective and develop dynamically in all directions; and that on the 16th of September the two countries marked the 20th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations, reports GHN based on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ms Beruchashvili thanked the Lithuanian MPs for ratification of the Association Agreement between Georgia and the European Union in the shortest period of time.
The members of the Group, in turn, informed the Deputy Minister on the results of the meetings held with the Georgian colleagues in the frames of the visit and on the future prospects of co-operation.
The Lithuanian delegation reaffirmed its Government's support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well for Georgia's European and Euro-Atlantic integration that was more than once confirmed by the Lithuanian Sejm's supporting resolutions and statements.
The two delegations focused on the current reforms in Georgia; underlined the need to implement the resolutions of the NATO Wales Summit; also, underlined the need to share Lithuania's experience in the process of implementation of the Association Agreement; and discussed the measures directed towards the speeding up the process of visa liberalization with the European Union.
Lithuanian MPs were provided with the information on the current situation in Georgia's occupied territories and on the process of Geneva Discussions. Talking points also included the international issues, including current situation in Ukraine and regional security.
