The Deputy Secretary of the U.S. State Department, Mr William Burns has met the Foreign Ministers of the "Eastern Partnership" countries. The Georgian Foreign Minister, Ms Maia Panjikidze attended the meeting.
Mr William Burns and the Eastern Partnership Foreign Ministers discussed the current situation in the region; processes developed in Ukraine; challenges the Eastern Partnership countries are faced with; and the co-operation with the European Union, reports GHN based on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Today, on the sidelines of the working visit to New York, Ms Panjikidze also met the Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, Ms Victoria Nuland.
The meeting was attended by the Georgian Ambassador to the U.S., Mr Archil Gegeshidze; the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Mr Eric Rubin; and the White House's Senior Director for European Affairs, Mr Charles Kupchan.
The American side expressed its interest towards the issue of implementation of the Association Agreement with the European Union, including the entry into force of the economic part of the Agreement. Talking points also included the NATO Wales Summit; the NATO resolution to offer a special package to Georgia; implementation of this resolution; the regional security; and the current relations between Georgia and Russia.
