There is no draft law on creating a special status for the restive regions of Donetsk and Lugansk in eastern Ukraine, President Petro Poroshenko said, adding that Ukraine is only to be decentralized, reports GHN based on RT.
"There will be no law on the special status of Donbas region. There is a law on a special operation mode of the local government. The secession of the region is out of question. A process of general decentralization is underway. It will start across the country," Poroshenko said on Thursday speaking at a press-conference in Kiev.
This statement runs counter to the Minsk protocol signed on September 5 by Kiev and local militias outlining what needs to be done to ensure the ceasefire in Ukraine's east. One of the key points of the agreement was the adoption of a new law providing for a special status for Lugansk and Donetsk regions and early elections there.
