EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus arrived Friday in Georgia to monitor the situation in the country after the local self-government elections held on May 30. Peter Semneby intends to hold meetings with representatives of the legislative as well as the executive government in Georgia. He will also hold face-to-face talks with Chair of Parliament Davit Bakradze, representatives of political parties also international and non-governmental organizations.
The meeting with Davit Bakradze will be held at 5 p.m. today. At the talks with representatives of the government, state strategy regarding the occupied regions of Georgia will be discussed.
`This time I arrived in Georgia to monitor the political life after the local elections. I also will be working with the government on the strategy regarding Abkhazia and South Ossetia. As for the elections, I think, they were held successfully. Improvements were observed since the last elections, although certain tasks still have remained before the next voting. The main thing is to set up the rules of play, which will be acceptable for all participants of the political life. It refers to the constitutional reform and the electoral legislation`, Semneby said.
