The rewarding ceremony of the Georgian military servicemen of the Special Mountain Battalion was held at Kandahar Air Base in Afghanistan, reports GHN based on the Ministry of Defense.
Commander of Regional Command South granted non-Article 5 NATO Medal for service with NATO in relation to the ISAF Operation to the personnel of the Georgian battalion. Major General Michael Bills delivered a speech to the Georgian military and thanked them for their contribution in the ISAF mission. He highlighted the importance of defending Kandahar Air Base and Georgian soldiers' role in this process. Sergeant Major of Regional Command South, Andrew Barteky attended the ceremony as well. Special Mountain Battalion of the GAF was carrying out their duties for 6 months. Georgian peacekeepers also fulfilled some tasks on the forward operating bases. Special Mountain Battalion is completing ISAF mission stage by stage. Two units of the battalion have already returned to Georgia from Afghanistan.
