Three people died and nine others were wounded in a blast near a bus carrying soldiers in Istanbul, Turkey today. One of the three victims was a child; some of the soldiers had family members on the bus. The explosion took place when the vehicle was passing through the Halkali district of the city, near a military housing complex, reports said. No-one has yet said they carried out the attack.
The bomb was apparently hidden in the road and detonated by remote control as the bus drove past early on Tuesday morning, The blast comes days after the separatist Kurdistan Workers` Party (PKK) threatened to launch attacks across Turkey.
Fighting between Turkish military forces and the PKK, who killed 11 soldiers at the weekend, has recently intensified.
