Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has thanked German Chancellor Angela Merkel for sending humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.
The head of state said this during telephone consultations on Monday, reports GHN based on Ukrinform.
"He said that 112 trucks of humanitarian aid for those affected in Donbas had already crossed the Ukrainian border and were traveling to Kyiv," the statement says.
Poroshenko and Merkel also discussed the peace process in Donbas. The sides noted that the lack of sustainable progress in the implementation of Minsk agreements and continued attacks by militants were putting the peace plan in danger.
In particular, the president stressed the need to restore control over the Ukrainian-Russian border in the area, which is occupied, create opportunities for Ukrainian border guards to perform their duties, while ensuring OSCE monitoring and proper technical support.
The sides stressed that the local elections in some parts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions should be held in accordance with Ukrainian legislation, as well as amid a sustainable bilateral ceasefire, equal opportunities for the election campaign and involving international observers.
