The presentation on the Psychological Selection and Monitoring Department was held in the Informative Educational Centre of Ministry of Defence. From now on, Department`s psychologists and psychiatrists will be responsible for the physiological selection of military servicemen, their and their families` psycho-rehabilitation and managing psychological condition of the military participating in peacekeeping operations, reports GHN based on the Ministry of Defense.
The Head of Department Giorgi Sikharulidze delivered presentation about Department`s duties and functions. Minister of Defence of Georgia Irakli Alasania addressed the invited guests and stressed the need of ensuring psychological welfare of the military servicemen taking part in the international missions including the wounded soldiers. Minister also outlined the role of the Department in this regard.
Deputy Minister of Defence Vako Avaliani, leaders of the GS of GAF and the military servicemen who had participated in international missions attended the presentation. Among the invited guests were psychologists, psychiatrists and the representatives of the non-governmental organizations acting in this sector.
Psychological Selection and Monitoring Department was set up upon the initiative of Defence Minister. Up to date, throughout 6 months, Psychological Monitoring and Evaluation Division operated in the GS. The psycho-rehabilitation project was developed in cooperation with American and European counterparts. While elaborating the project, different countries` defence models were taken into consideration and was tailored to the specifics of the Georgian army.
