The Minister of Defense Irkli Alasania considers that threat for the region is aggression of Russia but not location of NATO infrastructure in Georgia, reports GHN.
"As for the threat the most big threat for the region is occupation forces of Russia in our country and current aggression towards Ukraine," states Alasania and expresses hope that with the involvement of international community Russia will be forced to fulfill obligations.
The infrastructure of NATO will be located in Georgia stated Alasania while commenting on the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia on the location of infrastructure of Alliance in our country and added that it will support the strengthening of stability not only in Georgia but in whole region.
"First of all I want to clearly state that NATO infrastructure will be created in Georgia, this is the agreement that was reached on NATO Summit. Georgia-NATO package serves this purpose to open NATO infrastructure in Georgia and to implement joint military trainings and to increase retention factor of the aggression that comes from Russian side and to increase defense. This subject is already decided and I want to say that it will strengthen stability in the region. Strong Georgia is contributor for strong stability in the region," stated Alasania.
Kremlin expresses concern concerning NATO plans in Georgia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia stated that location of NATO infrastructure in Georgia will be threat to the stability in Caucasus.
The statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia reads: "Taking into account NATO interests location of Alliance infrastructure in Georgia will be threat for the stability in Caucasus region."
Representatives of self-declared Abkhazia and South Ossetia demand from Georgia to sign agreement about non-use of weapons.
Russian side claims that concerning the assignment of the agreement about non-use of the weapons as the most effective step was considered Russian project. The statement reads that this subject was discussed on the negotiations in Geneva.
