Georgian Parliament Speaker, Davit Bakradze held meeting with the Secretary General of NATO, Anders Fogh Rasmussen in Brussels today. Georgian ambassador to UN, Grigol Mgaloblishvili and the senior MP from the ruling party Akaki Minashvili were attending the meeting with the NATO chief. The meeting was followed by a session of the Georgia-NATO commission, where the speaker delivered a speech.
After the meeting, the speaker talked with journalists and said that they discussed situation in Georgia`s occupied territories, the necessity of de-occupation and the security in these two regions. He said the Secretary General reiterated the firm support of the Alliance to Georgia`s sovereignty and inviolability of its borders.
`Attitude to our country is very positive. They all believe that we have made serious contribution to the NATO success by taking party in the ISAF. The position of the Secretary General and all ambassadors was unanimous towards the support to Georgia`s territorial integrity. We discussed specific steps, which should be made in the frames of the NATO to finish the Russian occupation and protect Georgia`s territorial unity,` Davit Bakradze said.
Anders Fogh Rasmussen will visit Georgia arguably before the Lisbon summit in November, when the alliance member states will adopt a new security declaration. The document will demonstrate that the door of the alliance is open for young democracies.
