Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and U.S. President Barack Obama, ahead of a meeting of the heads of state of Asia and Europe in Milan, have discussed by phone a number of issues relating to the crisis in eastern Ukraine, reforms and economic recovery, the White House has said, reports GHN based on Ukrinform.
According to the report, the conversation took place on the afternoon of Wednesday.
"The two leaders discussed the need for all sides to fulfill their obligations under the Minsk Protocol of September 5 and Minsk Memorandum of September 19," the White House said.
Obama and Poroshenko agreed that the Asia-Europe Meeting in Milan on October 16-17 offered a good opportunity for leaders "to press President Putin to abide by all aspects of the peace plan, including putting in place an effective mechanism for controlling and monitoring the border between Russia and eastern Ukraine."
They also discussed energy security, political and economic reform, and how best to work together with international financial institutions and bilateral partners to support Ukraine's economy.
