President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko held a meeting with Austrian Federal Chancellor Werner Faymann in Milan. The interlocutors stressed the need for strict implementation of the Minsk Protocol and Memorandum, reports GHN based on Ukrinform.
"Commenting on the outcome of the meeting, the Ukrainian President said that they agreed with the Federal Chancellor on close coordination of actions to ensure a peace process and strict implementation of the Minsk Protocol, as well as to ensure energy security of Europe and Ukraine," a statement reads.
The sides noted importance of increasing the number of the OSCE Mission to restore control over the Ukrainian-Russian border and provision of the Mission with unmanned aircraft.
Poroshenko and Faymann agreed that illegitimate elections in some parts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions will nullify the Minsk agreements and will contribute to further escalation of the situation.
The President of Ukraine also said he expects a fruitful collaboration with Johannes Hahn, who was recently appointed as new Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy.
