The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Edgars Rinkevics considers that Georgia is leader of the project of "Eastern partnership", reports GHN.
He stated about this in Luxemburg where with the initiative of Latvia was held informal meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia with the Ministers Foreign Affairs of member countries of European Union. The meeting was attended by higher representative of European Union of foreign affairs Federica Mogerine, European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule and Helga Schmidt, head of the European External Action Service. As Edgars Rinkevics marked on the meeting there was discussed wide range of relations between European Union and Georgia, concretely implementation of the Association Agreement and the steps made in this direction, preparation period for Riga Summit, information about agreement between Russian Federation and Abkhazia; they talked also about internal political processes in Georgia.
"At the end of the meeting we all agreed that Georgia is leader of European Eastern Partnership and that Riga Summit that is planned in May next year, have to go out of the frame of Association Agreement. We all hope that will be able to end the working plan of liberalization of visa regime. Many things are depended on Georgia and on European Union," stated the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia. He also said that towards the agreement offered by Russia to European Union there will be made active protest steps on bilateral and also on the level of European Union.
We remind that the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of member states of European Union with Georgian side was held with the initiative if Latvia.
