Discussions on the Georgia's European integration have been held at the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) within the framework of the Georgian Foreign Minister's working visit to the Federal Republic of Germany. Ms Maia Panjikidze, the Coordinator of the German Bundestag for Inter-societal Cooperation with Russia, Central Asia and the Eastern Partnership Countries, Mr Gernot Erler and the Head of the FES Office for International Dialogue, Mr Alexander Kallweit have addressed the participants of discussions, reports GHN based on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In her speech, the Georgian Foreign Minister focused on the process of Georgia's European integration and the progress Georgia has achieved in this direction; on the existing challenges and risks, including, Russia's offer to sign treaty with the Abkhazian occupation regime on alliance and integration. She noted that Russia seems to want to punish Georgia for its European choice and called upon the international community to take strong measures. Ms Panjikidze also noted that opening new prospects for Georgia's European integration will be a serious message for Russia.
Mr Erler have assessed the current situation in the region and Georgia, and focused of the irreversibility of Georgia's European integration.
Ms Panjikidze thanked the Friedrich Ebert Foundation for its activity in Georgia and underlined its particular role in the process of strengthening democracy in the country.
The discussions in the Friedrich Ebert Foundation were attended by more than 200 guests. By the end of the meeting, the speakers answered the questions put by the audience.
