Stalin`s monument in the centre of the native city of the Soviet leader has been dismantled late last night. The police was protecting the central square of the city during three ours, while the workers were dismantling the monument. The process ended without incidents.
The locals were watching the process from distance.
Under the decision of the Gori municipal government, the monument will be taken to the museum. Instead of the Soviet leader, of which some of local residents were still proud as their compatriot, the memorial of Georgian heroes who died in the Georgia-Russia war in August 2008 will be erected.
The six meter-height monument of the Soviet leader was made of bronze, was erected in the centre of his native region in 1952, while the leader was still alive.
