German Chancellor Angela Merkel called on the EU to help Ukraine pay for Russian gas supplies, reports GHN based on Ukrinform.
"We need to provide a kind of interim financing," she said Friday morning after the first day of the EU summit in Brussels.
According to Merkel, it is necessary to provide funding for gas deliveries for a period from November to February, since in February Ukraine will receive a new aid package from the International Monetary Fund, which involves the European Union.
The Chancellor said that in talks with EU Energy Commissioner Guenther Oettinger, Russia and Ukraine, which will be held October 29, various concepts of such interim financing will be discussed.
