On the 23rd of October 2014, the Georgian Foreign Minister, Ms Maia Panjikidze met her Lithuanian counterpart, Mr Linas Linkevičius, who, on the sidelines of his South Caucasian tour, paid an official visit to Georgia, reports GHN based on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ms Panjikidze expressed her satisfaction over the visit of her colleague; underlined the existing particularly cordial and friendly relations between Georgia and Lithuania; and thanked Mr Linkevičius for the support the Lithuanian Government and the Foreign Minister himself have been providing for Georgia and Georgian people.
At the meeting, the two delegations underlined the bilateral and multilateral relations and dynamic and fruitful co-operation existing between their relevant countries. The two Ministers also underlined the need to use fully the potential, which is provided for by the trade and economic relations between the two countries. Given the fact that the trade turnover increases, the Georgian Foreign Minister, with a view to attracting more investments to the country, welcomed the signing of Agreement on Economic Co-operation and the establishment of the Intergovernmental Economic Commission in the nearest future.
Numerous projects have been implemented in Georgia with the help of Lithuania. As Mr Linkevičius noted his Government, with a view to rendering assistance to Georgia, has been exploring the possibilities of involving Lithuanian experts into the processes of implementation of the Association Agreement and the Action Plan of the visa regime liberalization with the European Union.
Ms Panjikidze provided her colleague with the information on the measures the Georgian Government has taken for effective implementation of the Action Plan, which was developed to fulfill the Association Agreement, including DCFTA.
Ms Panjikidze confirmed that the implementation of measures provided for by the substantial package offered to Georgia at the NATO Wales Summit is considered to be priority guidelines for the Georgian Government. Of particular importance is the assistance rendered by Lithuania in terms of Georgia's European and Euro-Atlantic integration. Ms Panjikidze thanked Mr Linkevičius for ratification of the Association Agreement between Georgia and the EU by Lithuanian Parliament in the shortest period of time.
The Lithuanian Minister reaffirmed that his Government condemns Russia's offer to sign treaty with the Abkhazian occupation regime on alliance and integration and shares Georgia's position on the challenges and risks included in this treaty.
On the sidelines of his official visit, Mr Linkevičius also met the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Mr Davit Usupashvili; the State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Issues, Mr Aleksi Petriashvili and representatives of parliamentary opposition.
In the frames of the visit, the Lithuanian Minister laid a wreath on the memorial of the lost for the unity of Georgia and visited the adjacent to the occupation line village of Khurvaleti.
