24 years ago, on October 28, 1990 first time in the history of Soviet Republic of Georgia there was held multiparty elections of the Supreme Council; as a result of these elections there was ended nearly 70 year rule of Communist Party, the Supreme Council became representative organ and begun independently to rule the country, reports GHN.
The Supreme Council stopped full functioning in 1991 because of military coup and continued its activities in exile until 1994. As s result of military coup in the government came military council that stopped constitutional action of transitional period and declared Supreme Council outlaw, reinstated 1921 constitution of democratic republic of Georgia.
