Today a meeting was held on the gender equality issues in Ministry of Defence. Deputy Minister of Defence Tamar Karosanidze met NGO representatives and independent experts. Deputy Minister focused on the need of raising awareness about enhancing gender equality within the Georgian Armed Forces and familiarized the attendees with the concrete steps taken in this area in the MoD, reports GHN based on the Ministry of Defense.
Ministry of Defence has already approved the Gender Equality Strategy. Advisors on gender issues, who were specially selected and trained, currently work in the civil office of the Mod and GAF. Two advisors-a man and a woman are serving in each military unit at the brigade level. They are responsible for supporting implementation of Gender Equality Strategy.
The meeting went on in an interactive format. The MoD staff listened to the experts` recommendations. The sides expressed hope of close cooperation in future. Among the attendees of the meeting were the representatives of Psychological Selection and Monitoring Department.
