"The President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili stated that he is ready to meet his Russian counterpart, but in this case Russia has to recognize territorial integrity of Georgia. It means that Moscow has to cancel orders of 2008 of September about recognition of independency of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, also has to close active embassies in Sukhumi and Tskhinvali and to take back its military bases. This background doesn't support to the meeting but in spite of this Russia agreed on the meeting," writes "Politcom".
Right now relations between Russia and Georgia go on upward direction, but the issue is that contact of "Abashidze-Karasin format" is connected to economics and humanitarian sphere and political relations are frozen.
The attempt of Russia to make deep integration of Abkhazia is one more factor that impedes political relations. It is true that this attempt has form of the agreement but this is clear that such kind of social-economic and military integration means only that Abkhazia will be the region of Russia.
Of course Tbilisi doesn't like it but also can't do anything too.
Also bringing the issue on international arena has no desired result because right now relations between Russia and Ukraine get warmer and on this background not US and not European Union doesn't want to irritate Russia.
And what is the reason of meeting of Margvelashvili-Putin?
It is obvious that if there will be contact between the sides there will be talking about economic collaboration, however who knows...
If we take into account Russian Japanese relations (Moscow and Tokyo have problematic territorial issues) nothing is excluded. According to this restoration of diplomatic relations between Russia and Georgia, and the highest level of contacts is inevitable, however there will be maintained heady problems with aggressive rhetoric. This is price paid for conjuncture.
