Minister of Defence of Georgia, in the framework of the visit in the Federal Republic of Germany, visited the Georgian military servicemen deployed at Wildflecken Military Base. The Company of IV Mechanized Brigade of Georgian Armed Forces is going through preparation, reports GHN based on the Ministry of Defense.
The Georgian contingent is getting ready to deploy in Afghanistan to take part in the Resolute Support mission. Defence Minister viewed the training base and observed the process of training. "The German generals and officers gave a high appreciation to the preparedness level of the Georgian contingent. I am very proud to see that our soldiers gained so much experience and studied German military tactics in such a short period of time. It is a very useful experience to participate in joint military operations. Joint involvement in operations provides an important basis for German-Georgian relationship. I am proud that I am Minister of Defence of the country that has the military distinguished with their professionalism wherever they are deployed- in Afghanistan, in Central Africa or in Germany," said Minister of Defence.
Brigadier General Breuer, Commander of the 37th Mechanized Infantry Brigade of Germany gives positive evaluation to the preparedness level of the Georgian military: "I have privilege together with my battalion to do the training for the Georgian contingent. We will deploy in a couple of weeks to Afghanistan. It has been great honor and great pleasure to have so well-trained Georgian soldiers here in Germany and to train together with them and prepare them for our common mission in Afghanistan. It is a common goal, it is a common aim and I am glad that we can do the training here together. I am amazed of the bilateral cooperation; I am amazed what the soldiers are doing here together. One of my company commanders here said today that it was comradeship at the beginning and it is friendship now. This is really what we see here from day to day."
The training course lasts for 5 months and consists of several phases. The Georgian military underwent individual training at the platoon and squad level under the command of German instructors. They practiced the skills of patrolling, base protection and fast response. The Georgian Company along with the Bundeswehr military is also going through combined and situational training. The Georgian troops are due to finish preparation in November and engage in the Resolute Support mission side by side with the German soldiers.
Within the frames of the visit, Minister of Defence of Georgia will meet his counterpart Dr. Ursula von der Leyen. At the bilateral meeting Defence ministers will discuss military cooperation issues and future plans of partnership. Minister Alasania will make speech at the Koerber Foundation as well.
