Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have discussed the results of trilateral gas consultations involving Ukraine, the EU and Russia and stressed the need to achieve conditions for reliable gas supplies to Ukraine this winter and ensuring Europe's energy security, reports GHN based on Ukrinform.
The two leaders stressed the importance that all agreements that are now reached in Brussels were being worked out in a constant dialogue with the European Union and its leaders, including incumbent European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and Vice-President of the European Commission Energy Commissioner Gunther Oettinger.
"Petro Poroshenko told Angela Merkel that in this context he planned to have telephone consultations with incumbent European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and Jean-Claude Juncker, who will begin to serve as European Commission president from November 1," the report says.
Poroshenko and Merkel also condemned the intention to hold pseudo-elections in the so-called DPR and LPR on November 2, as it contradicts the Minsk protocol of September 5. "The Ukrainian president said that all parties to the Minsk protocol and the Minsk memorandum were responsible for their implementation, including the Russian Federation, which confirmed its commitment to these agreements, following a multilateral dialogue in Milan on October 17," the press service said.
