Today in the embassy of Czech Republic there was held opening ceremony of the project "Georgia IV" of NATO trust fund. The event was attended by the deputy Defense Minister Mikheil Darchiashvili, deputies of general stuff of armed forces, Brigadier General Vladimer Chachibaia and Colonel Giorgi Kbiltsetskhlashvili. In the embassy also were representatives of NATO alliance office and ambassadors and attaches of NATO member participant countries of the project, reports GHN.
Mikheil Darchiashili talked about importance of the project. Also on the aim and importance of the project paid attention head of NATO alliance office William Lahue and manager of NATO project fund David Taundrou.
"Georgia IV" is implemented in the frame NATO-Georgia collaboration. The project takes into account cleaning damaged storage of ammunition in village Skra after 2008 war between Russia and Georgia, also high quality trainings of the engineers. Georgian soldiers are trained by representatives of armed forces of Sweden and US European Command.
In the frame of the project from underground bunkers will be taken 500 tones of ammunition and will happen its neutralization that will decrease risk of explosion of damaged materials that is threat to local population and international railway. As a result of implementation of "Georgia IV" villagers will have possibility to use territory safely. Project budget is 1, 6 million Euro. The leading countries are the Czech Republic and Lithuania. The contribution in the project also was made by: USA, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Spain, Sweden and Turkey.
In the frame of the project "Partnership for Freedom" implemented by the PFP Trust Funs Georgia has begun collaboration with NSPA - NATO Support Agency in June 2002; in the frame of close cooperation with agency there was successfully implemented three projects of the fund for Partnership for Peace - "Georgia I," "Georgia II" and "Georgia III."
