Today on June 28 at 15:00 the Constitutional Court Plenum will announce the decision on the case - "Georgian Ombudsman against Parliament"
The case touches the law, according to which, foreign citizens living outside Georgian borders and Georgian people without citizenship have no right to take legal suits in the Constitutional Court of Georgia. Ombudsman believes that such restriction is contrary to the Article 42 of Constitution which provides the right to apply to Court regardless of citizenship and nationality.
According to the Georgian Parliament such right is to be only for Georgian citizens. In case if the legal suit against Parliament will be satisfied this will invoke the annulment of the legislative norm. Accordingly foreign citizens will have the opportunity to make influence on Georgian legislation.
Because of importance of the case it was decided by the Constitutional Court's Plenum. The verdict will attend Ombudsman and representatives of Parliament.
