In Moldova day of soviet occupation will be marked for the first time. June 28 of 1940 is decided by Moldova Acting President as a day of occupation. The decree was signed on June 24.
It no wander that the June 28 of 1940, when Soviet Army entered Bessarabia is a black day for Moldova's history. Accordingly this date is marked as a beginning of soviet occupation, as a very sad day, "- Gimpu, acting President said.
"In front of the government's building the memorial for victims of Communist regime will be constructed. Namely starting from this day June 28 of 1940 begins the tragedy of our people - deportation, famine, decentralization and we have to remember this, " - Gimpu said.
Acting President refused to change own decision, under the pressure of ruling alliance members and communist fraction. Gimpu was disappointed that his colleagues from the ruling party did not uphold his decision and demanded to annul the decree. He criticized communists who believe that June 28 of 1940 is a day of liberation.
"I can understand the view point of communists for whom the interests of this country were always alien, but I cannot understand my colleagues from the alliance for European Integration, who are asking me to arrive to Moscow, forcing me to take part in parade. It is better for them to be quiet and to back my policy, because it is fair, "- Gimpu said.
It was estimated by Viacheslav Stavile, one of the members of Commission for Investigation of Communist regime actions that as a result of Soviet occupation Moldova's loss amounted to 28 bn. USD. He suggested to Moldova government to review the question of compensation. Mikhai Gimpu said the government will review this question in nearest days.
