Ministry of Defence of Georgia addressed the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia with the relevant letter to hand over the original or copy certified documents on procurement of laying the fiber optic cable today.
Defence Ministry of Georgia, as the agency that classified the case, took decision to
make the documents public. Defence Ministry of Georgia needs the original documents or copies in order to address the MIA Counter Intelligence Department in order to make the documents public according to the Georgian legislation.
The agency that classified the case should make the documents public. For these procedures Defence Ministry needs the findings from the MIA Counter Intelligence Department.
According to the articles 17 and 18 of the Georgian Law on State Secrets, Ministry of Defence of Georgia addressed the Counter Intelligence Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs with an official letter requesting partial declassification of documents related to procurement of laying the fiber optic cable on October 29. The Counter Intelligence Department requested to submit the relevant materials on October 3, while the above-mentions materials still remain at the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia.
Ministry of Defence of Georgia has never stated that the documents were classified by the Prosecutor's Office and therefore could not affirm that the agency is not declassifying the document deliberately.
