Minister of Defence of Georgia Mindia Janelidze hosted the Head of NATO Liaison Office in Georgia, William Lahue. NATO Military Liaison Officer COL Maximilian Eder also attended the meeting. The sides discussed the ongoing cooperation programs with the North Atlantic Alliance and outlined the future plans. Implementation plan of NATO-Georgia Substantial Package was the main topic of discussion as well, reports GHN based on the Ministry of Defense.
"We had a very interesting meeting with the Head of NATO Liaison Office. We discussed all current projects underway between Georgia and NATO and NATO Liaison Office is actively involved in realization of these programs. We underlined that we will continue implementation of all projects and activities that had been planned previously. Besides, we'll have new initiatives that will assist to further strengthening and deepening our relations with NATO. We have agreed on the format and outlined how we are going to work on the implementation plan of the Substantial Package. In the nearest future we are planning the expanded meeting between the representatives of the Defence Ministry and NATO Liaison Office and continue active cooperation," declared Defence Minister.
"We met to discuss the current situation in MoD and future plans. We had a very frank discussion about the current situation. We are assured that the path of the Euro-Atlantic integration that the MoD has been on for many years already will continue. They will redouble their efforts to continue particularly working on the Substantial Package. Members of our team and I have no concerns about the future of MoD. MoD is in good hands with the new Minister and we are confident that the reform process will continue," William Lahue said after the meeting.
