Minister of Defence of Georgia continues meetings with the representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in Georgia. Today, Mindia Janelidze hosted Ambassador Janos Herman, the Head of European Union Delegation to Georgia, reports GHN based on the Ministry of Defense.
A main topic of discussion was a current cooperation between Georgia and EU and future perspectives of relationship. The sides agreed upon to further develop bilateral cooperation with EU countries. A focus was made on the Agreement signed with EU in March regarding Georgia`s participation in EU crisis management operations within the framework of common foreign and defence policy directions.
"We`ve had a fruitful negotiations with the EU Ambassador. We`ve talked of the previous years, previous cooperation as well as the future prospects. They stand ready to continue partnership with Georgia intensively that will undoubtedly promote development of our armed forces", stressed Minister of Defence.
Ambassador Janos Herman underlined significance of Georgian troops` contribution in international missions led under the aegis of EU and hoped of future cooperation in this area.
"I am also new. I came to Georgia just some weeks ago and I am making courtesy calls to ministers, to the members of the Government. As part of these visits, I came also to the Ministry of Defence. I think that even though the European Union has a very ample cooperation with Georgia in many other fields, we also need to focus on our cooperation in the area of the security policy. It is already well-known that the European Union signed an agreement with Georgia last year about cooperation in the area of Common Foreign and Security Policy and this framework agreement, as the official title says, entered into force in March this year. We value very much the cooperation with Georgia in this field. Obviously, this was the main topic. During my conversation with the Defence Minister I said that the European Union values very much Georgia's contribution to different European Union missions in particular, in Central Africa and Mali. We will see there will be opportunities also to continue this cooperation in the future. We also shortly mentioned the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) which is here in Georgia, which is one of the biggest operations in this type of the operations. This is an important topic; we think that the EUMM plays an important and useful role in providing better conditions for a peaceful resolution of the crisis".
