Command and Staff Exercise "Didgori 2014" started at National Training Centre "Krtsanisi" today, reports GHN based on the Minister of Defense.
The Defence Minister of Georgia Mindia Janelidze, Chief of General Staff of the GAF, Major-General Vakhtang Kapanadze, Commander of National Guard, Brigadier General Levan Gamkrelidze and high-rank officials of the General Staff attended the opening ceremony.
Defence Minister of Georgia Mindia Janelidze addressed the participants of the exercise and wished them success. Defence Minister highlighted importance of the training. "Similar military exercises and trainings are very important for increasing combat capability of the Georgian Armed Forces. Command and Staff exercises help to develop interaction and coordination mechanisms among various military units. The training is being conducted in East and West Georgia which helps to develop communication elements. We should take into account all oversights we had during the war in 2008 and try to fill these gaps. I should give my recommendations to all participants to pay particular attention to the training and get more experience from it. I would like to thank all the participants involved in the training, our partners and our colleagues from the MIA. In the future we wish other ministries to involve in the exercise, as coordination among the various state agencies along with the Army is very essential during crisis situation", outlined Mindia Janelidze.
At the ceremony, military personnel and invited guests paid tribute to the memory of the Georgian warriors who died in action in fight for territorial integrity of Georgia and while performing international missions. Military orchestra performed the State Anthem of Georgia.
"Didgori 2014" is a command and staff exercise with different state agencies. The aim of the exercise is to enhance interaction between governmental institutions, improve command and control system and working process of the various staffs of the Georgian Armed Forces.
The scenario of the training is based on real situation. During the training defence operations against virtual opponents will be conducted in a simulated geopolitical area. Imitation of the hostilities will be provided by the "JCATS" system.
Alongside with the different units of the GAF, the Ministry of Interior is also involved in the training. First time, the relevant departments of the MoD are participating in the exercise.
"Didgori 2014" will be held at the National Training Centre "Krtsanisi", Vaziani and Senaki and last till November 18.
