Minister of Defence of Georgia Mindia Janelidze hosted the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Georgia. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary H. E. Mr. Ortwin Hennig visited the Defence Ministry along with the German Defence Attaché, LTC Bernard Hop. At the meeting the sides discussed the current bilateral cooperation issues and agreed on future prospects of cooperation. Defence Minister thanked the German side for political support of Georgia and contribution to development of the Georgian Armed Forces. Mindia Janelidze expressed hope that successful cooperation in defence sphere between the two countries will continue in the future, reports GHN based on the Ministry of Defense.
"We'll continue cooperation in two directions with the German side. Firstly, we'll actively cooperate to increase the defence capabilities of the Georgian Armed Forces and the second important direction is our aspirations to join the North Atlantic Alliance. We agreed that we'll have working meetings and regular consultations on this topic. I hope that these relations will be beneficial for the Defence Ministry," stated Defence Minister.
German Ambassador also expressed readiness to strengthen bilateral cooperation: ""It was a courtesy call with new Minister on my part but it developed into very friendly, very substantive discussion. The Minister reaffirmed that the foreign policy course of this country stays unchanged. This is a very important political message after the turbulences following the resignation of Ministers. We discussed the continued cooperation between Georgian and German Armed Forces. I reiterated that good cooperation that we used to enjoy with the previous team and Minister reassured me that this cooperation will be continued, it can even be deepened. We stand ready to deepen our relationship. I made the point that better our cooperation will be more detailed Georgian reform concepts are."
