During his meeting with the Georgian Prime Minister, Mr Irakli Gharibashvili, the European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, Mr Dimitris Avramopoulos, stated that ‘the EU welcomes the successful implementation of the first stage of [Georgia's] visa liberalization action plan' (VLAP), and expressed his office's readiness to help Georgia successfully implement the plan's second stage. A first delegation is due to visit Georgia in November, reports GHN based on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mr Gharibashvili, in turn, focused upon the results which Georgia has achieved during its implementation of the visa liberalization action plan. He noted that Georgia has adopted a law on the protection of personal data, a migration strategy and action plan, a national human rights strategy and action plan which comply with the recommendations of the Hammarberg Report and a law forbidding discrimination in any form. Mr Gharibashvili ended by once again confirming his government's commitment to the European and Euro-Atlantic course, and declared Georgia ready for the effective implementation of its association agreement with the EU.
